It's a long journey ahead
This Bear made a decision one day to make some changes in his life - and so he started off on an adventure. He started walking and walking, through night and day, sometimes only stopping to ponder if his journey was worth it. Sometimes it seems pointless, other times it was so tiring that all he wanted to do was give up and turn around but he persevered. He believed that it was just a momentary weakness.
He believed that some battles and journeys we all have to take alone – that while he looked up and saw that the stars and the clouds and sometimes the moon and sun accompanied him; only he himself could find the answers he was looking for. Only he could find the cure to his ailment.
So keep walking he did.
Those times when he needed a moment to think and remind himself to believe, he would stop and stand there; alone although not quite in complete darkness. And he would look around him, look at his paw steps behind him, look at the vast land all around him – squint to try and make out what lies ahead. This piece captures that very moment when this bear looks up towards the sky and asks for guidance and for hope. Perhaps its the gods he’s asking – mostly it’s through these mediums that he is asking himself for the help that no one apart from him alone can give.
So much made up my inspiration for this piece, including some of my very own “This Bear” pieces – “Alone to Battle” & “Search for an Elixir” and no doubt, my own self journey – and the self doubt that comes with it. One particular inspiration came from the story of “The Little Prince” – off on his own journey and the very nonsensical things he experienced. It is truly through these senseless moments – or so we think – that we end up uncovering a deeper cause; be it a realisation, aim or if you are lucky – PURE JOY.
