Lyrics of my soul
This is it’s story, starting with this beautiful quote:
“People tell me I am fucking crazy for turning so quickly from a happy man to a broken man. What they don’t understand and cannot seem to get through their thick skulls is that to reach the broken people you too, have to be broken. And that, is all I have ever wanted – to reach people, people who no one has yet reached. So I will say this: give me your suffering and I swear it will be carried, even if that means the death of sorrow inside you and the birth of sorrow inside me.” – Christopher Poindexter
I find myself drawn to Poindexter’s words with every passing day and although I am unsure why I have chosen this particular poem to go with my piece, I only know that somehow it complements it perfectly.
“The lyrics of my soul” was pen put to paper without the use of sight throughout its entire process. This piece is a scribble of my psyche and emotions, in which I put on a particular song on loop, closed my eyes, let my mind and soul run free; and allowed my fingers to speak on my soul’s behalf. I could not tell you exactly in words now what I was feeling and thinking then; that moment has passed – I can only tell you to look closely and look for signs of yearnings, dreams and hopes. I can only tell you that as I am writing this, I look to you – yes you, you who are reading this: Smile. You are not alone. Here, take my hand. I will share it with you.
